The Edmonds Senior Center (formerly South County Senior Center) is a regional multi-purpose senior center providing programs and services for the senior population of South Snohomish County. Programs and services are grouped within three major activity categories:

1) health and wellness

2) social services and community outreach

3) education, recreation, and social activity programs

At present, membership at the center totals approximately 1300 individuals, and well over 3,000 members and guests take part in the many activities offered on a regular basis.

Mission Statement:

To advocate for the senior citizen in the community and to provide a variety of programs and services to help fulfill the social service, recreational, educational, and health and wellness needs of the senior community, with a view toward broadening and enhancing the quality of their lives and stimulating their creative imaginations.

History:

We are celebrating our 42nd year of service to the community. The Center is a member of the Washington State Association of Senior Centers.  We served as a national model for and were instrumental in formulating the requirements for being certified as a multi-purpose senior center.

EdSC serves the needs of the elder population of our community by providing extensive support for a very diverse target population that faces a multitude of problems such as poor health, low and fixed incomes, lack of employment training and opportunities, inadequate housing options and lack of personal and family support. EdSC functions as an access point for all community-aging services resources while providing support and services in a warm, welcoming and accepting environment. Our overriding goal is to maximize the independence of senior citizens, reduce or eliminate the need for institutional care, while enhancing the quality of life. All of our various programs and services relate closely to our mission statement.

As people age, they experience a multitude of losses: family and friends, employment, health, home, hearing or vision, a social support system, etc. We are here to assist seniors to live the most independent, healthful and enriched lives possible. The need for these programs and services increases year by year because seniors are the fastest growing segment of the population. This trend will continue partly because people are living longer and healthier lives and partly because the baby boomer population has achieved senior status.
