About Edmonds SC:
Founded in 1968, the South County Senior Center, a non-profit 501©(3) tax-exempt organization, provides services to older adults for free or at reduced rates that would otherwise cost much more were it completely staffed by paid employees.
The Center’s funding comes from a combination of its thrift shop, banquet room rentals, contributions from individuals and estates, and United Way. Approximately 30 percent is from annual allocations from the City of Edmonds, City of Lynnwood, Senior Services of Snohomish County, and surrounding communities. The Center’s largest source of revenue is its volunteer-powered Thrift Shop south of the ferry terminal, which sells quality clothing and household items at amazing prices.
An Important Element of Successful Retirement:
For more than 40 years, South County Senior Center has helped make the lives of older adults in the community more meaningful, less lonely and healthier, physically and mentally.
With newly elected board members and new executive director (early 2009), the Center is more accessible, welcoming, accountable, and full of ideas for new programs. It’s a New Center! Check it out.
With the rising tide of retiring Baby Boomers, the Center plays an increasingly important role in helping to keep Edmonds a great place to live and retire successfully.
Fight Loneliness:
The Senior Center is a great antidote to loneliness and isolation that often accompanies old age. Whether you are 50, 60, or older the Center has programs tailored to your needs. If you don’t find a program that interests you, please contact the Center with a suggestion. Also, if you are expert in a field and willing to teach a class, let us know!
With American families scattered across the county--and sometimes around the world--it is common for older adults to live a great distance from their grown children, siblings or other family members. We invite friends and family wherever you are in the world to support the Senior Center in Edmonds and keep it available to older adults who depend on it.
Invest in your Parents, Yourself and the Future:
The South County Senior Center plays a huge role in keeping Edmonds a desirable place to live. Invest in this wonderful community by becoming a member of the Center and by making a generous donation.
