After cost estimates were shared for potential new buildings in Whately or Deerfield, it became clear that the projected $15–$20 million price tag would be prohibitive. In the summer of 2025, we learned that an existing property at 112 Amherst Road in Sunderland was available for lease or purchase. The South County Senior Center (SCSC) Board of Oversight recognized this as a valuable opportunity to pursue as the future home of the Senior Center. Since then, the Board of Oversight and SCSC Staff have been working to educate South County residents by hosting multiple Community Forums and offering building walk-through opportunities.
